What is ZigBee?

Based on the IEEE’s 802.15.4 personal-area network (PAN) radio standard, ZigBee is an open wireless mesh network standard.  The advantages of ZigBee include low-cost and low-power, which allow this technology to be widely deployed in wireless control and monitoring applications. Low power-usage allows longer life with smaller batteries and mesh networking provides high reliability and more extensive range. In the face of the rapid development of the Internet of Things (IoTs), ZigBee-style networks have gained greater popularity to meet the need for self-organizing ad-hoc digital radio networks. For instance, ZigBee is ideal for Home-Area Networks (HANs), which are becoming more widespread in the global market.
